# Design a cattle brand: the Brand Designer, ideas, and registration

The [Cattle Brand Designer](https://creatures.com/tools/cattle-brand-generator), headed **Cattle Brand Generator**, lets you build and preview a livestock brand in your browser for free. Use the separate ideas and registration pages when you need inspiration or the official next step for your state.

## Build the mark

1. Enter one to three letters or numbers in **Letters or numbers**.
2. Choose an orientation for each character, such as Upright, Lazy, Crazy, Reverse, or Tumbling.
3. Add a **Traditional symbol** or **Composition** when it improves the design.
4. Read **Brand-speak** to see how the finished mark is described.

The live preview updates as you change the controls. Keep the mark easy to distinguish at the size and distance where it will be used. A warning appears when parts are likely to merge into a dark blot.

When AI options are available, the designer shows the remaining use count beside them. An AI iron image is inspiration only. Your downloads always use the clean, editable design from the composer.

The designer itself is free and does not require an account. A free Creatures account unlocks **SVG** for an editable design file, **PNG** for an image, and **Print sheet** for a printable concept sheet. If you sign up from the download prompt, the current design stays ready for you.

Your current design is also kept in the page link and, when browser storage is available, in that browser. **Save version** keeps alternate takes in the same browser. Copy the link if you want a more dependable handoff to another device or person.

Open [Cattle Brand Ideas](https://creatures.com/tools/cattle-brand-ideas) to compare editable starting points. Select **Edit this design** on any tile, then change its characters, orientation, symbol, or composition in the designer.

## Check registration before use

Open [Registration by state](https://creatures.com/tools/cattle-brand-registration) and search for your state. Each row links to an official source and summarizes the recording path, scope, fee, and renewal information available when the directory was reviewed.

Creatures does not search whether a particular mark is available and does not record it for you. Rules can change and may be state, county, species, or location specific. Follow the official link, confirm current requirements with the named authority, and check availability before using or filing the design.
