# Pedigree, family, and lineage

Open **Pedigree Studio** to explore an animal's parents and relatives without changing the saved family tree. You can also add missing parents when you have editing access, or share the pedigree information other people are allowed to see.

## Open Pedigree Studio

1. Open the animal's profile and select **Pedigree**.
2. Select **Open Pedigree Studio** above the preview.

## Explore the family

- **Pedigree** shows ancestry by generation. **Family** groups the relatives available around the focused animal.
- **Descendants** lets you choose how many generations of offspring to show.
- **Canvas** shows a visual tree. **Outline** shows a scrollable list, useful on a phone.
- **Table** lists animals loaded in the current view. It is not a search of the entire herdbook.

Select a relative, open **Details**, then choose **Focus here** to explore from that animal. **Home** returns to your starting animal; **Recent** returns to an earlier focus. None of these navigation choices changes parentage.

## Use the pedigree tasks

Sign in and open **Tasks** for these tools:

- **Review** brings together pedigree work that needs your attention.
- **Lineage Table** builds an ancestor list beyond the animals currently on screen, within your access.
- **Relationship** compares two animals you can access.
- **Pair Lab** explores a hypothetical pairing privately. It does not record a mating or change either pedigree.
- **Import animals** starts an import from an existing document or file.

## Fill a missing parent

1. Select the animal with the missing parent.
2. Open **Add**, then choose **Add sire** or **Add dam** when available.
3. Search for the existing animal before creating a new reference profile for an ancestor you do not own.

Editing depends on your access to that animal. To change an existing parent, use the edit control in the profile's **Family** panel. For a document you already have, see [Importing a pedigree](https://help.creatures.com/en/article/add-an-animal-by-importing-its-pedigree-tovb3s/).

## Share without exposing private information

Select **Share** to open **Share this Studio view**. **Copy public Studio link** checks what a signed-out visitor can see; if necessary, it uses a safe public starting view or explains why sharing is unavailable.

**Download PDF** and **Download PNG** require a free account and create the standard ancestry certificate, not a copy of every current view or task. Private pedigree access remains restricted.

Trust labels describe the support for a record, not a guarantee. Missing information can reflect privacy or an unfinished branch. Add registrations and supporting documents through [Records](https://help.creatures.com/en/article/care-growth-and-identity-records-ixpf3/).
