# Reviewing, editing, and confirming an import

Review tells you which animals and records Creatures is ready to add, which existing animals it will use, and what still needs your decision. Preparing or editing this review does not finish the import.

## 1. Identify the subject animal

If asked **Which animal on this pedigree is yours?**, compare the registration, birth date, and source details. A matching name alone is not enough.

If your document shows only the parents and **My animal isn't listed** is offered, enter your animal's name and select **Create from these parents**. This adds it to the review as their offspring; check its sex and details before importing. If your animal should be on the document but is missing, use a clearer source instead.

When Creatures offers **Add pedigree to** an existing animal, check that it is the correct profile. Choose **Add a new animal** only when it really is a different animal.

## 2. Review every item that needs a decision

1. Open each row that needs attention. Check the animal details, registrations, proposed records, and possible matches against your source.
2. Choose **Import** or **Skip** where offered; the subject animal cannot be skipped. Skipped animals are not included in this confirmation; they stay in the review for later.
3. Check each family decision. A **pedigree relative** appears in the family tree, not in **My animals**. Linking to someone else's animal does not give you ownership or editing access.
4. Resolve conflicting readings only when the source supports your choice. Leaving one unresolved can leave that position and relatives above it empty; the confirmation explains what will be missing.

If the page says another tab changed the review, reload before continuing. Never use **Import anyway** just to dismiss an unexplained duplicate warning.

## 3. Check privacy and confirm

Under **Original pedigree document**, review **Save this file as a pedigree record** when offered. **Show this file on the animal's public page** is off by default. Leave it off if the document contains contact details, signatures, or buyer information.

Check the destination and selected-animal count, then select the **Import** button showing that count. Read the confirmation before choosing **Import animals**. If it offers **Save with partial pedigree**, choose it only when you accept the described gaps; otherwise choose **Keep reviewing**.

## 4. Read the result

Wait for the result before retrying or starting another import. It distinguishes new animals, existing matches, and items left for review. A prepared or partly completed review is not proof that every item was saved.

For a **Registry classifications** result needing attention, check the animal's Registration record and [registry guidance](https://help.creatures.com/en/article/registering-an-animal-with-a-registry-1kjpki7/). Do not guess at an unfamiliar registry value.

## If you need to undo

The ordinary import offers **Undo import** within its 72-hour deadline. Read the confirmation: it removes eligible changes from that import, while existing animals and items that cannot safely be removed remain. Later edits or ownership changes can limit what Undo removes.
