# Transferring an animal to its new owner

Use an ownership transfer when a known new owner should receive the animal's existing profile and records. The profile stays with you until they accept; recording a sale in Finance is a different action.

You must be an owner or co-owner, or have the equivalent authority for the organization that owns the animal.

## Send the transfer

1. Open **More animal actions** on the profile and select **Sold, rehomed, or deceased**.

2. Select **Sold**, then **Transfer ownership instead**. If the choice is **Sold or rehomed**, continue from that option to the transfer.
3. Under **New owner**, search for a member, or use **Invite by email** or **Invite by text** when available.

4. Choose the **Reason** for the handoff.
5. Optionally enter a sale price. Turn on **Show price on the ownership timeline** only if that amount should be public.
6. Select **Send transfer** and complete any fee confirmation.

The recipient can join Creatures from an invitation if needed. An unaccepted invitation expires after 14 days.

## Transfer ownership or Record sale?

The optional price documents the handoff for the buyer. It neither charges the buyer nor saves seller income to your Finance book. To record seller income and mark the animal sold now without waiting for a buyer, use **Record sale & mark sold**. See [Sold your animal?](https://help.creatures.com/en/article/sold-your-animal-how-to-update-creatures-10iweor/).

## If a fee applies

The owner's first completed transfer is free. Pro can also waive the transfer fee. If a fee applies, Creatures shows the amount before payment; available Creatures Credit and Wallet funds can help cover it, with any remainder paid by card.

If an invite expires, is declined, or is replaced by a newer transfer, any transfer fee is returned.

## After the new owner accepts

The recipient becomes the owner and receives the profile, records, pedigree, and ownership history. You remain in the history as a previous owner, not the current manager.

An active listing must be safe to withdraw before transfer. If an auction has active bids, resolve it before trying again.
