# Type with your voice

Tap the microphone in the corner of a text box, say what you want to write, then tap it again. Creatures turns your words into text and adds them where your cursor was.

## Before you start

- Sign in. The microphone shows in larger text boxes, like notes, descriptions, comments and messages. It doesn't show in search boxes or one-line fields, such as a name or a date.
- Let your browser use your microphone. The first time you tap it, your phone or browser asks for permission. Choose to allow it.

## Start voice typing

1. Tap inside the box where you want the words, so your cursor is in the right spot. If you don't see the microphone yet, tapping the box brings it up.
2. Tap the microphone in the corner of the box. On a computer, it says **Start voice typing** when you point at it.

## Speak, then stop

1. Speak normally. The button turns red with a square while it listens.
2. Tap the red button (**Stop voice typing**) when you're done. You can talk for up to 3 minutes. After that, it stops on its own.

## Check your words

1. Wait a few seconds while the button spins. Your words appear in the box, and the button flashes green.
2. Read the text and fix anything it heard wrong. Then save or send as you normally would.

On the **What happened?** page, you can speak a whole note and let Creatures draft the records from it. See [Quick capture: turn a note into records](https://help.creatures.com/en/article/quick-capture-turn-a-note-into-records-1gwfz2u/).

## If something looks wrong

- **Microphone access was not allowed. Check browser permission and try again.** Your browser blocked the microphone. On a phone, open the settings for Safari or Chrome and allow the microphone. On a computer, select the small icon next to the web address and turn the microphone on. Then reload the page.
- **Did not catch that. Try again.** Nothing was heard. Check that your microphone is on, move a little closer, and try again.
- **Not transcribed.** with a **Retry** button: your recording didn't turn into text, often because voice typing was busy. Select **Retry** to try the same recording again, without speaking it again.
- **Voice note is too long**: keep each recording under 3 minutes. For a long note, record it in parts.

## What happens to the recording

Creatures uses the recording only to turn your words into text. The recording itself is not added to your note, record or post. One exception: when you choose **Speak it** for a money entry, Creatures keeps the voice note privately with that entry, so you can check it when you review.

Your words sit in the box like anything you type. Nothing is saved or sent until you save the form or send the message yourself.
