Closing your Creatures account

There's no button that deletes your account on the spot. Send the Creatures team a deletion request, and we'll close it for you.

Send a deletion request

  1. Select your photo at the top of any page, then Settings, then the Account tab.
  2. Under Delete your account, check the message in Your request. You can add what didn't work for you below it.
  3. Select Send deletion request. It goes to the Creatures team as a message in Messages.

Can't sign in? Email info@creatures.com with the subject "Data Deletion Request" from your account's email address.

Sending a request doesn't delete anything right away. Before we close an account, we check that nothing is still open with other members or with money. If something is, we'll tell you what it is so you can finish it first.

What needs to be finished first

Organizations someone else will keep running. Transfer ownership or add a co-owner before we close your account. Organizations with another active owner or co-owner stay open when you leave.

If an organization has not been deactivated and still has team members but no other owner or co-owner, promote one of them to owner or co-owner, or remove those team members first. If the organization is banned, ask us to unban it before updating the team. If you only help an organization whose owner still has an account, you leave it without closing it.

The checks below apply to organizations closing with your account too. Finish their bookings, sales, balances and ongoing paid plans first.

We also can't close your account while any of these are still open:

  • Shared animals with no one else in charge. If an animal has another owner who is not you or an organization closing with your account, that owner needs an active person able to manage the animal. If its only other owners are organizations closing with you, its public profile becomes a reference animal; a private profile is deleted.
  • Animal transfers: pending invitations for someone to take ownership. The person you invited needs to accept or decline. If they don't, the invitation expires after 14 days.
  • Sales in progress: an auction that has bids, a listing in a sale event that's running, a buyer partway through checkout, or a sale where the animal hasn't been handed over yet.
  • Bookings: upcoming bookings, held booking spots and open quotes, whether you're the customer or the provider.
  • Reservations for an animal or a litter, as a buyer or a breeder.
  • Money still moving: a bid you're leading, a temporary bidding hold on your card, an auction you won but haven't paid, a purchase or deposit waiting on hand-off, an open invoice, a paid transport request, or an application fee on an open application.
  • Stud services: a confirmed stud breeding that isn't wrapped up yet, or a stud request with a payment, refund, hold or money owed still open. This counts whether you own the stud or asked for the breeding.
  • Balances: a Wallet or Creatures Credit balance that isn't zero, or unused booking credits.
  • Ongoing plans: a Creatures Pro plan that is still running, membership dues billed through Creatures, genetic storage, or sponsorships.
  • Open disputes, and Creature Card or certificate orders that haven't shipped yet.

Keep copies first

After your account is closed, you can't sign in to get anything back. Download any reports or records you want to keep before you send your request. See Download herd reports.

What happens when we close it

Your other active listings. We cancel them for you, so you don't need to take them down first. That includes auctions with no bids. Anyone with an open offer is told the listing is no longer available. Listings from organizations closing with your account are cancelled too. If someone else is selling an animal or genetics that go away with your account, we cancel that listing as well.

Organizations you run alone. If you are an owner or co-owner and nobody else has an active role, we close the organization with your account and remove its profile contact details. You do not need to deactivate it first. We can also finish closing an already-deactivated organization, even if it still lists team members. Its name and handle stay in historical records, but its profile and booking page disappear. Addresses needed for retained compliance records stay. You leave the other organizations you belong to.

  • You're signed out everywhere and can't sign in to the account again.
  • Your name, email, phone number, photo, cover, bio, location, links and ID check details are removed.
  • Your name, email and phone are removed from your bookings, Checkout records, sponsorships, applications and invoices too. A host still sees the booking, as "A former member".
  • Public animals that only you own become ownerless reference animals. The same applies when their only other owners are organizations closing with your account, or those organizations own the animals without you. Their public identity, photos and pedigree facts stay, so family trees keep working. Private animals with no remaining owner are deleted.
  • Animals with another remaining owner stay with that owner.
  • Your stud service offers come down, and stud requests that were never confirmed or paid are closed.
  • Your saved searches, notification settings, sign-in links, calendar links and saved cards are removed, and you're taken off our email newsletter.

A reference animal records an animal's identity and lineage without claiming ownership. When we convert one of your public animals to a reference, we take its private keeper records, health and care history, private photos and notes off the profile, and end its record-sharing links. Someone claiming that reference later can't see them. Public pedigree facts, registrations and public photos stay. Financial records that must be retained stay in their original account or organization records; claiming the animal does not give someone access to them.

Public reference animals you already created also stay, with your personal connection removed. Private references are deleted unless another active reference creator or organization manager can keep managing them. A public reference connected to an organization closing with you stays without that organization connection.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle deletion requests and which records the law requires us to keep, such as tax records.

Not ready to close it?

You can step back without losing anything:

  • Turn off the emails and texts you don't want in Settings, on the Notifications tab. See Choosing how Creatures notifies you.
  • Make your animals private. Make my 3 public animals private instead, under Delete your account, does it in one step. See Public, private, and reference animals.
  • Take an organization you own or co-own out of the directory with Remove from directory, in the same section. Its profile stays public.
  • Leave an account or organization you only help with from Settings > My access.
