Sold your animal? How to update Creatures
Sold your animal? How to update Creatures
Selling or rehoming an animal is not only about the money: its Creatures profile, records, and pedigree should follow it to the new owner so nothing is lost. How you update Creatures depends on where the sale happened.
If you sold through a Creatures listing
When a buyer purchases through your listing, Creatures handles most of the update for you. The listing moves to "Sold" on its own once checkout completes, so you do not need to end it. The buyer's payment is held by Creatures until the handoff is confirmed, and your payout is released after that. For the full walkthrough of the sale, the held funds, and fees, see What happens after I sell an animal?.
If you sold outside Creatures
If the sale happened somewhere else (in person, over the phone, on another site), Creatures cannot see it, so you update things in two short steps: end the listing, then hand off the profile.
1. End the listing
Open the listing and choose to cancel it. Creatures asks why, with three reasons. Pick the one that fits, because the choice changes what happens next:
- Sold outside Creatures: use this when the animal actually sold. Creatures then offers to transfer the profile to the buyer so they can keep the records going (the next step). You will see: "Congrats! Next we'll offer to transfer [name]'s profile to the buyer so they can keep the records going."
- No longer for sale: the animal stays on your profile and you can relist it anytime. Use this if you changed your mind, not if it sold.
- Other: anything else. Add a note so we understand.
There is an optional "Anything else?" note (up to 500 characters) for extra detail. Then press Cancel listing.
2. Transfer the profile to the buyer
Right after you choose "Sold outside Creatures", Creatures offers to transfer the animal's profile to the buyer. Transferring hands over the records and pedigree so the new owner can keep them going, and it works even if the buyer is not on Creatures yet. The full walkthrough, including how to invite them and exactly what moves, is in Transferring an animal to its new owner.
If there is no new owner to hand it to
Sometimes there is no one to transfer to, or you simply want the animal off your account. You can remove it instead: the profile stays on Creatures as a public reference so its pedigree is preserved for the herdbook. See Removing an animal from your account.
