Adding a record
Adding a record
You can log a record in a few seconds from any animal you own or manage. This guide covers where to start, picking the right type, and every shared field on the form.
Start a record
Open an animal's Records tab and select Add Record, or use the Add record shortcut in the left sidebar. You land on the record type picker.

The picker is built to get you to the right type fast, and each shortcut means something:
- Search by name or by what the record is for.
- Recent shows the types you have used lately, so repeat logging is one click.
- Common for {species} surfaces the types most animals of this species need (for cattle, that includes vaccination), so you are not hunting through the full list.
- The full grid is grouped into Health, Care and growth, Breeding, Identity and papers, and Planning and other, each type with a one-line description of what it captures.
Fill the form
Choosing a type opens its form. A few fields are shared by every type, and the rest are specific to what you picked. Here is the shared part, with what each one does:

- Animals: the animal the record is for. Many types let you select several animals at once, and Creatures saves one record per animal. The implication: this is the fast way to log the same vaccination or treatment across a whole pen without repeating yourself, and each animal still gets its own editable record.
- Record Type: what you are logging. You can switch it here without starting over.
- Files: attach photos, videos, or documents (a vet invoice, a lab report, a certificate) by upload or straight from your phone's camera. Attachments live on the record, so the proof travels with it.
- Make public: whether the record shows on the animal's public profile. It starts on the default for that type (public for most, private for medical detail). Changing it here decides who sees this particular record.
Below those, you fill the fields for the type you chose, covered in Health and medical records and Care, growth, and identity records. Select Save Record, or Save & Add Another to log a run of records without leaving the form.
Edit or delete a record
Every record on the Record history timeline has Edit and delete controls for owners and managers. Editing reopens the same form. Deleting removes the record, and if that record created a reminder (for example a vaccination with a follow-up date), the reminder is cleared too, so you do not leave an orphaned task behind.
Records for a whole group
If you manage animals in a group, you can apply one record, or a whole recurring care plan, to every member at once. See Apply records and track activity for a group and Care plans for animal groups.
